Sego tempong or nasi tempong is a typical Banyuwangi food in the form of white rice served with side dishes and chili sauce. In ancient times, sego tempong or rice tempong was a provision for farmers who worked all day in the rice fields. However, because of its distinctive taste, this spicy rice dish has become popular and is sold as the main menu in stalls and restaurants. Even many tourists who visit Banyuwangi come to hunt for tempong rice.
